Disasters: A Race Against Time
When violent conflicts or natural disasters devastate the livelihoods of thousands of people at a stroke, rapid assistance from Caritas is crucial for survival.
In early 2022, the outbreak of war in Ukraine shattered the lives of millions of people, inflicting unimaginable suffering on a daily basis. We were on the scene immediately and continue our tireless efforts to help by providing essential aid, such as food, clean water, safe shelter, medical care, and psychosocial support. Our colleagues in Ukraine, neighboring countries, and Austria provided assistance and supplies to those affected by the war and those seeking protection, despite the challenging conditions prevailing in some areas.
Emergency Aid in the Aftermath of Flooding
In Pakistan, when floods ravaged the land and destroyed everything in their path, over 30 million people - one in seven - were forced to face this nightmare. In the summer of 2022, the country experienced one of the most significant natural disasters in human history. Millions of people were suddenly left homeless, and their means of livelihood were destroyed. At the same time, the disaster exacerbated the issue of hunger. We provided immediate emergency assistance by delivering life-saving food parcels, tents, and tarpaulins, as well as emergency medical care.
Our ability to provide assistance is made possible by your tremendous solidarity and donations! We are grateful for your support!
Miron Finds Safety
Miron, a 12-year-old, has endured some harrowing experiences amid the conflict in Ukraine. When their hometown's airport was bombed, Miron's mother made the difficult choice to seek safety in the neighboring Republic of Moldova with Miron's grandmother and siblings. They have found refuge at a Caritas center, receiving essential support such as warm shelter, mental health care, food supplies, and tools for online classes.
Watch the video below to listen to Miron as he shares his current situation.
