Climate Protection and Social Justice
The climate crisis is not only an ecological emergency, but it also carries profound social, economic, and political consequences. At Caritas, we see it as our duty to act in a climate- and environmentally responsible way—throughout our projects, programs, and daily work. As a civil society organization, Caritas shares the responsibility to support a genuine socio-ecological transformation, both at home and abroad.
The Impact We Aim to Achieve:
- We implement our sustainability strategy (adopted in November 2020) consistently and aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.
- We place greater emphasis on projects that reduce CO₂ emissions, both in Austria and internationally—enabling donors to make a meaningful contribution to climate protection.
- We ensure that all our environmental projects and initiatives are socially responsible.
- Fighting energy poverty remains a core focus of our work.
- We support employment projects in the circular economy and expand regional projects that integrate social assistance with ecological sustainability.
- We build on and expand our network of staff, youth, and volunteers to promote our values of sustainability. To support this, we develop a communications strategy.
- At the national and European political levels, we actively advocate for sustainability and forge alliances with science communities, environmental groups, and youth initiatives.
