Education in Times of War and Crisis
Millions of children worldwide grow up amid violent conflict, poverty or effected by climate change – often at the cost of their childhood and education. Yet education stands as the most powerful key to a better future.
In response, we have established safe spaces in 18 Ukrainian schools - shelters where learning continues even during air raids. Here, children can also play, explore their creativity, and receive support from dedicated social workers.

Moldova, one of Europe’s poorest countries, has shown remarkable solidarity with refugees from Ukraine – but the situation remains challenging. Our partners help Ukrainian children continue their schooling locally, alongside Moldovan classmates to foster integration. Additionally, around 500 children from disadvantaged families receive support with educational assistance and daily nutritious meals – often the main reason families send their children to school at all.
Across Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan, we empower approximately 1,700 children through educational programs that build futures. In Austria, 2,446 students receive free tutoring in our 72 Lerncafés.
